'Green channel' expedites export of seasonal fruits to BRI countries

In September 2023, a batch of Xinjiang red grapes, valued at 188,000 yuan, were exported through Buji Customs to Indonesia, in time for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

As it is now the peak season of fruit exports, seasonal fruits from many parts of China are being exported through Shenzhen to 21 Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) partner countries, such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

"The Southeast Asian market demand for Chinese grapes is very large around the time of the Mid-Autumn Festival, especially the red and 'sunshine rose' grapes. The grapes from Xinjiang and Yunnan are vibrant in color and sweet in flavor, and they have a strong competitive advantage in the market given the special geographical conditions," He Yisheng, a customs clearance manager of Shenzhen Youzhihu Fruit and Vegetable Co. Ltd., noted.

To reduce the inspection and quarantine time, Buji Customs established a "green channel" for fruit inspection, coordinating with enterprises in making export plans, implementing an appointment system for inspection, and giving fruit exporters priority for inspection.

Further, Buji Customs guided enterprises regarding orchard management, pest control, and fruit grading at processing plants through information collection and data research, so that grapes in Xinjiang, kiwifruit in Shaanxi and fragrant pears in Shanxi can be exported in a timely manner.

Data from Shenzhen Customs showed fruits worth 4.53 billion yuan were exported through Shenzhen ports from January to August 2023, with a year-on-year growth of 5.6%.
